A Visa Application Charge – or VAC – is the charge levied by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) as part of the visa application process.  VACs are generally charged at the time an application is made.

From 1 July 2017 the cost of lodging a visa application will be indexed in line with the forecast Consumer Price Index.  New VACs for the typical visa types TSS Immigration assists with will be:

457 – Temporary Work (Skilled) Visa

  Current 1 July
Main applicant $1,060 $1,080
Dependent 18 and over $1,060 $1,080
Dependent under 18 $265 $270

A Subsequent temporary application charge of $700 per person can apply in some instances for applicants in Australia. TSS Immigration will be able to advise if this charge applies.

186 – Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa

  Current 1 July
Main applicant $3,600 $3,670
Dependent 18 and over $1,800 $1,835
Dependent under 18 $900 $920

187 – Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Visa

  Current 1 July
Main applicant $3,600 $3,670
Dependent 18 and over $1,800 $1,835
Dependent under 18 $900 $920

400 – Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa

  Current 1 July
Main applicant $275 $280
Dependent 18 and over $275 $280
Dependent under 18 $70 $70

Credit card surcharges
Immigration applications lodged electronically are typically paid for using a credit card.  DIBP applies a credit card surcharge:
• Visa and MasterCard* - 0.98%
• American Express and JCB - 1.4%
• Diners Club International - 1.99%

A surcharge also applies to Debit Visa cards and Debit MasterCards when making payments online.

Second VACs
A VAC paid when an application is lodged is referred to as the ‘1st instalment’ because some applications involved a 2nd instalment that is paid during the course of processing. Payment of a 2nd instalment – commonly referred to as a ‘second VAC’ - typically applies where one or more of the applicants does not meet standard English requirements.  The indexation on 1 July will not affect second VACs.
