Family Visas Reinstated

Following a disallowance motion made by the Greens, the Parliament has overturned a recent Government decision to remove a range of family visas previously available.
The affected visas are:
• Aged Parent
• Aged Dependent Relative
• Remaining Relative
• Carer Visa
The Greens’ motivation for the disallowance motion was in an effort to preserve the rights of families and ensure where possible, that families are kept together. However, while these visa categories have been reinstated, most have relatively few visas available for grant in any particular year, which means applicants may wait for a considerable number of years, before such visa applications may be finalised.
