Minister Michaelia Cash recently announced that visa applicants requiring to evidence their English Language ability, will now have access to a greater range of test options. Previously, the only options for visa applicants, who were required to undergo English Language Testing were through the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Occupational English Test (OET).
Two new testing systems will be introduced for Graduate, Skilled, Work and Holiday and Former Resident Visas. The changes are due to come into effect in November 2014, with the objective of creating more competition in the English Language testing market.
The new and additional testing regimes will be conducted through the Test of English Language Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT) and the Pearson Test of English Academic. By 2015, the Department of Immigration also hopes to add the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test across the visa program.
